Start with the basic settings
Make sure the remote is set to Cool rather than Fan or Dry mode, and that the target temperature is lower than the room temperature. Allow the unit some time to respond, especially if it was just switched on.
Check that the indoor unit receives power and that the outdoor unit can operate without blocked airflow. Do not open electrical panels or attempt to work on refrigerant lines yourself.
Check filters and airflow
Dusty filters can restrict airflow and reduce how much cooled air circulates through a room. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for safe filter cleaning. Keep furniture and other obstacles away from the air outlet and intake.
If the airflow is weak even after routine cleaning, or the coil is heavily soiled, a professional cleaning appointment may be appropriate.
Possible faults that need inspection
If the system runs but never cools adequately, the cause may include refrigerant leakage, a failed fan, a faulty sensor or an electrical or compressor problem. Similar symptoms can have different causes, so a remote diagnosis is unreliable.
Repeatedly topping up refrigerant without investigating a leak may not resolve the underlying fault. A technician should inspect the system and explain the findings before repair work.
When to contact a technician
- The unit trips a circuit breaker repeatedly.
- The outdoor unit does not run when cooling is requested.
- There is frost or ice where it should not be.
- The unit leaks water, smells burnt or makes unusual noises.
- The room remains warm after checking basic settings and airflow.
