Where the water is coming from matters
Air conditioners remove moisture from indoor air. Normally, condensate collects in a drain pan and exits through the drainage pipe. Water dripping into a room instead of flowing away can indicate a blockage, poor drainage slope or another issue.
Common causes
- Blocked drain: dust and biological growth can obstruct the drainage line.
- Dirty filters or coils: poor airflow can contribute to unusual condensation or icing.
- Drain pan issues: a damaged or misaligned pan can allow water to escape.
- Installation and insulation: incorrect drain slope or inadequate insulation can cause moisture to appear where it should not.
What to do safely
If water is near electrical fittings or the leak is severe, switch off the system and seek professional advice. Protect nearby furniture and floors if it is safe to do so. Avoid dismantling parts, touching wiring or putting liquids into electrical equipment.
Preventing repeat leaks
Routine filter care and periodic professional inspections can reduce certain drainage and airflow problems, although cleaning alone will not fix every leak. If the problem returns, the drain path, installation position and related components should be checked. See repair services or cleaning options.
